Bhutan in July
Full monsoon — green valleys, rain, lowest prices.
July is the wettest month in Bhutan and the quietest tourist month after January. If you accept that mountain views will be hit-and-miss and afternoons usually wet, you get the country at its lushest, with rivers full and rice terraces brilliant green. Pricing is at its lowest.
Weather in July
Paro and Thimphu: 17 to 26°C (63–79°F). Heavy rain especially afternoons.
Punakha: 21 to 32°C (70–90°F). Hot, humid, sticky.
Bumthang: 12 to 22°C (54–72°F) — mildest in the country, often best choice this month.
Festivals in July 2026
No major tshechus this month. Bhutan's festival calendar is lunar-based, so July typically sits between major events — see the full festival calendar for the year-round picture.
Best for
Travellers who want the lowest prices and don't need clear mountain photos. Photographers chasing dramatic clouds and waterfalls. Bumthang in particular is comfortable and culturally rich this month.
Caveats
Domestic flights to Bumthang can be cancelled at short notice due to weather. Build in flexibility. Tiger's Nest is challenging — the trail is slippery and clouds often hide the monastery.
