Thimphu Tshechu 2027 is expected to run 10-12 October 2027.
Treat those dates as tentative: tshechus follow the Bhutanese lunar calendar, the final schedule is set by the monastic authorities, and current projections for 2027 range across mid-October. We'll update this page when the official calendar confirms. What's already clear is the month: unlike 2026, when the festival fell in late September, the lunar calendar pushes the 2027 edition into October.
The planning catch: the SDF concession
Here's the thing most festival pages won't tell you. Bhutan's Sustainable Development Fee is currently discounted to $100 per adult per night, confirmed only through August 31, 2027. Thimphu Tshechu 2027 falls after that date. If the concession isn't extended, the SDF could revert to $200 per night, adding roughly $700 per person to a week-long October trip.
Nobody knows yet which way it will go; the Department of Tourism has extended the concession before. But if you're weighing spring against autumn for a 2027 festival trip, Paro Tshechu in March sits safely inside the concession window, and Thimphu in October doesn't. Why Thimphu Tshechu is still the practical pick
Everything that made the 2026 edition the easiest major festival to attend holds for 2027. It's in the capital, an hour and a half from Paro Airport, with the country's widest range of hotels a five-minute drive from the venue. Three full days of cham at Tashichho Dzong give you the broadest masked-dance programme of any tshechu, and the trip slots cleanly into a one-week itinerary with Tiger's Nest and a Punakha day trip.
