A place worth the journey

Bhutan is the world's only carbon-negative country, the only one that measures Gross National Happiness, and the home of Tiger's Nest — a monastery clinging to a cliff 900 metres (≈3,000 ft) above the Paro Valley. The trade-off for keeping it this way: the country requires a licensed Bhutanese guide, government permits, and a daily Sustainable Development Fee.

We handle that side. You just travel.

  • • We apply for your visa and permits with the Department of Immigration
  • • $100/night SDF and $40 visa shown upfront in your quote — no surprises
  • • Licensed Bhutanese guide on the ground, English-speaking support throughout

How we're different

We do Bhutan a bit differently.

Here's something most travellers don't know: you don't actually need to go through a tour operator to visit Bhutan. You just need a licensed Bhutanese guide, the visa sorted, and the SDF paid. That's it.

So you can either pick one of our three curated journeys — properly thought through — or build your own. Tell us when you're going and what you'd like to see; we'll handle the rest.

What that means in practice
  • Pick a curated journey or build your own — same booking flow either way
  • Every day on the ground with a licensed Bhutanese guide we know personally
  • Adjust your day-to-day on the trip — your guide is your concierge, not a coach driver
  • Card payments — no international wire transfers to Bhutan
  • Refund terms in plain English — not buried in a PDF
Time-limited concession

The Sustainable Development Fee is currently $100 per adult per night — a 50% reduction from the original $200 post-2022 rate. The concession is confirmed through August 31, 2027. After that, it could revert to $200 unless extended again.

On a 7-day trip, that's the difference between $700 and $1,400 SDF per adult. If you're weighing 2026 vs 2028, this window saves real money.

Common questions

Everything you might be wondering

The questions trip-planners ask us most often, answered straight.

How much does a Bhutan tour cost?

International visitors typically spend $5,000–$9,500 per person all-in for a 7-day trip — that's flights, tour cost, the Sustainable Development Fee (currently $100/adult/night through Aug 31, 2027), and visa. Our 7-day Essential Bhutan Journey starts from $2,900 per person on the ground with all permits and the SDF included.

Do I need a visa to enter Bhutan?

Yes — every foreign national except Indian citizens needs a tourist visa. The $40 visa fee is paid online and the visa is stamped on arrival at Paro Airport. We apply for the visa on your behalf as part of your booking.

What's the best time to visit Bhutan?

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) have the clearest skies and are peak Tshechu festival season. Summer is monsoon (lush valleys but cloudy mountains), winter is cold but quiet. Most travelers pick autumn for the dry weather and major festivals.

Month-by-month guide
Can I travel Bhutan independently?

Mostly, with caveats. Since September 2022 foreign visitors no longer need a full tour package — but every foreign visitor still needs a licensed Bhutanese guide for cultural sites and trekking, plus a visa and the Sustainable Development Fee. (Regional permits are handled by your licensed guide as part of their licensed status.) We provide the guide, visa, SDF, and logistics so you can focus on the trip.

How early should I book?

For peak season (March–May, September–November) and festival weeks, book 4–6 months ahead — accommodation in Paro and Thimphu fills early. For shoulder/low season, 2–3 months is comfortable. Visa processing takes about a week, so the earliest practical window is roughly 2 weeks before departure.

What's included in the price?

Every booking includes the Sustainable Development Fee, visa, hotels (Budget, Mid-range, or Premium tier), licensed Bhutanese guide (who handles all regional permits), private vehicle and driver, all meals, and entrance fees. International flights and tips for your guide and driver are extra.
